While this is still a side-scrolling shooter with all the action you'd expect from a 2D Metroid, the addition of a new enemy named E.M.M.I, marks a significant change to how you'll traverse the map. It's a direct sequel to the Gameboy Advance title, Metroid Fusion, which was released in 2002, so should clear up some of the story gaps in the main timeline. We learned a lot about Metroid Dread during its initial reveal, as well as the extended gameplay footage shown at Nintendo's Treehouse presentation.
